Where will you go first?

Compare 100 of the world's best destinations for a first solo trip — by vibe, budget, and how much travel experience they ask of you. Built to help you go from "someday" to "here's where."

Experience-level tags are based on current U.S. State Department travel advisories and the Global Peace Index. Budget ranges are derived from the Numbeo Cost of Living + Rent Index. Language ease reflects the EF English Proficiency Index. All sources dated 2025–2026 — advisories change, so always check the live source before booking. See methodology below.

Methodology & sources

This tool is built for inspiration and first-pass planning, not as a definitive safety verdict on any destination. Four fields are sourced as follows:

  • Experience level (first solo trip / level-up / experienced traveler) is based primarily on the current U.S. State Department Travel Advisory level for that country (Level 1 → first solo trip, Level 2 → level-up trip, Level 3 → experienced traveler), cross-checked against the Global Peace Index (Institute for Economics and Peace, 2025–2026 edition). No Level 4 ("Do Not Travel") destinations are included.
  • Budget range is derived from Numbeo's Cost of Living + Rent Index by country (2025 data), scaled to an approximate daily solo-travel budget. Actual costs vary by city, season, and travel style.
  • Language ease reflects the EF English Proficiency Index 2025 country bands (very high/high → easy, moderate → ok, low/very low → tricky); English-official or native-English countries are marked "easy" by default.
  • Best season reflects general climate consensus and is not tied to a single cited index.

Travel advisories change — sometimes quickly. Always check travel.state.gov (or your own government's equivalent) for the current advisory before booking, regardless of what's shown here.

This is meant to be used as an inspiration tool and the user should independently research each destination to fit their individual travel preferences.

Last cross-checked against current sources in June 2026. This tool reflects a snapshot in time — re-verify before publishing if it's been a while, and always point your audience to live sources for anything safety-related.
